Ramtrom extends Fram agreement with Rohm
MANHASSET, NY -- Ferroelectric random access memory supplier Ramtron has entered into a new manufacturing and license partnering agreement with Rohm Co., Ltd. to manufacture Fram-based semiconductor products for Ramtron on Rohm’s Fram manufacturing line.
Initial low-density Fram products have been qualified for commercial production and Ramtron expects to receive and begin selling the first devices produced on Rohm’s manufacturing line in Japan within approximately 60 days.
The agreement extends an existing relationship begun in 1994.
Ramtron has Fram manufacturing lines at Texas Instruments in Dallas, Texas, and at IBM in Burlington, Vermont.
“From a strategic perspective, having Rohm as our partner will further strengthen our competitive position as we continue to expand the addressable market for our products and drive future growth, “ said Eric Balzer, Ramtron’s CEO, in a statement.
Since commercializing the technology, Ramtron has sold over a half-billion Fram devices into such applications as automotive safety and entertainment systems, portable medical devices, industrial process control systems, smart electricity meters, and consumer electronic devices.
