MLCC plays an indispensable role in the electronics industry. Application areas include consumer electronics (such as smartphones, Bluetooth headsets), electric automotive, communication infrastructure, medical equipment, and other electronic products. Among them, the penetration rate of new energy automotive continues to increase, the intelligentization of automotive and the continuous deepening of connectivity, plus the lead-time delay due to the chip shortage in the market, the demand for automotive-grade MLCC is expected to continually increase.
In order to meet the demand of the expected growth in future , a Japanese electronics manufacturer Taiyo Yuden (Changzhou) Electronics, a subsidiary of Taiyo Yuden Electronics, has put into production construction. It will build a new factory in Changzhou City, Jiangsu Province, and is expected to start MLCC production in 2023. This new plant construction plan is also part of the company's growth strategy in its mid-term business plan for 2025.
The planned investment of the new factory is about 17 billion yen (factory part), the floor area is about 80,000 square meters, and the building area is about 28,500 square meters. Construction will start in December 2021 and be completed in June 2023. Fully invested in the production of MLCC.
Taiyo Yuden regards MLCC as its main layout direction in the future. The announcement stated that multi-layer ceramic capacitors are indispensable in contributing to the technological development of automotive (such as ongoing electrification and the use of electronic control) and communication infrastructure (such as servers and base stations). Communication equipment) and 5G smartphones.
Except for Taiyo Yuden, Murata and TDK are also expanding the production of high-end automotive MLCCs in overseas factories in China, the Philippines, and Malaysia, etc.
