SoC uses Imagination GPU to boost graphics performance, save power

The SoC integrates Imagination’s PowerVR GT7400 Plus GPU to provide high definition graphics and improved performance in vision and computational photography-based applications.

“The combination of MediaTek’s processing technologies and the PowerVR Plus GPU in the MediaTek Helio X30 enables our customers to create smartphones that deliver great user experiences,” said Jeffrey Ju, MediaTek’s co COO.

Mark Dickinson, pictured, executive VP of Imagination’s PowerVR business unit, added: “The Helio X30 is another impressive accomplishment from MediaTek and we were delighted to work with them to support development of the chip’s advanced graphics capabilities. In our strategic collaboration, MediaTek has now combined its expertise and innovative technologies with our high-end XTP series of GPUs to create compelling and differentiated devices across the mobile segment.”

Now available commercially, the X30 features three CPU clusters. The high performance cluster features two ARM Cortex-A73 cores running at 2.5GHz, while there are four Cortex-A53 cores clocked at 2.2GHz and a further four A53 cores running at 1.9GHz. The PowerVR Series7XT Plus GPU, clocked at 800MHz, supports display resolutions of up to 3840 x 2160 pixels.

Supporting two 16Mpixel cameras, the SoC is equipped with 8Gbyte of LPDDR4x memory.
