Software-hardware combo could double mobile phone battery life

According to the companies, the integration of Qualcomm’s Quick Charge 4 charging technology and Qnovo’s QNI software will allow mobile device manufacturers to deliver safer and and higher performing batteries. Qnovo says its QNI software could double battery life compared to traditional charging approaches – potentially another two years of device life.

“It is all about delivering more performance out of the battery and remaining safe at all times.” said Nadim Maluf, CEO of Qnovo. “Snapdragon 835 with Quick Charge 4 accelerates our ability to improve the battery experience for millions of mobile consumers.”

According to Alex Katouzian, general manager of Qualcomm’s mobile business unit: “Consumers demand more from their mobile device batteries – more daily use, faster charging and longer lifespan. Qnovo adaptive charging complements Quick Charge 4.”

QNI software is said to make batteries last longer by managing the underlying chemical reactions. Qualcomm’s PMI8998 power management chip, part of the Snapdragon 835 chipset, includes hardware that accelerates Qnovo algorithms.
