Dialog, Energous launch ASIC for WattUp power transmission

The DA4100 WattUp IC integrates an ARM Cortex-M0+ MCU, an RF transmitter and power management functionality into a 7 x 7mm package. The device also features DC/DC conversion and software, integrating with Dialog’s SmartBond family of low power Bluetooth Low Energy SoCs.

“We’re pleased to see the first results of our partnership with Energous in the form of the WattUp wireless power RF-transmit IC,” said Mark Tyndall, Dialog’s senior vice president for corporate development and strategy. “We partnered with Energous because we see the potential of its technology to revolutionise wireless charging and we believe this IC will demonstrate how our partnership can transform device charging.”

Stephen Rizzone, Energous’ president and CEO, added: “This IC will be the backbone of transmitters moving forward and our efforts to miniaturise and reduce costs will allow WattUp transmitters to be included in-the-box with many consumer devices.

“By combining the multiple discrete components in our early reference designs into a single chip, we can reduce the cost and silicon footprint requirements of our transmitters significantly while decreasing the bill of materials.”
