3D printing of rigid PCBs with flexible connectors

The process is said to provide a solution to traditional production limitations, such as continuous transfer of conductors between circuits, loose contacts, size of connections between the circuits as well as fabrication of multi-layered flexible material.

The printed materials include flexible conductive ink, as well as a dielectric-material ink which is said to enable rigidity and flexibility. These materials can be controlled digitally and integrated together during the printing process.

In addition, Nano Dimension claims to have developed software that allows the printing of electronics-design files with flexible connections.

Printing flexible connections eliminates the need to manually connect the circuits, while saving on space and cost.

One example of how such circuits may be used is to create a flexible, thinner, more durable watch.

Potential markets include aerospace, missiles, aviation, wearables and the IoT.
