NXP targets audio, voice and video in IoT products

According to the company, the i.MX 8M family addresses ‘major inflection points’ in streaming media, including voice recognition and networked speakers in audio, and the move to 4K High Dynamic Range video.

“Prior to this, there weren’t any viable processing solutions that addressed voice, video and audio requirements without being overkill,” said Martyn Humphries, VP of consumer and industrial applications processors. “With i.MX 8M, customers can get the exact solution for their needs.”

Devices feature up to four 1.5GHz ARM Cortex-A53, as well as a Cortex-M4F, flexible memory options and high speed connectivity. The processors also feature full 4K UltraHD resolution and HDR video quality, up to 20 audio channels and DSD512 audio.

Four devices are available: the Dual; Quad; QuadLite; and Solo. The Dual and Quad variants have two or four A53 cores respectively, with one Cortex-M4F and 4kp60, h.265 and VP9 video capability
