SANTA CLARA, Calif. – Intel Corp. surprised attendees at the
Open Compute Summit with news it has engineering samples of 100 Gbit/second silicon photonics modules that could reshape server design. The news was one of many innovations on display here for large data centers.
Among other news, the Facebook-led Open Compute Project (
OCP) showed the first boards designed for a new Common Slot architecture, geared to accommodate ARM or X86 server SoCs. Applied and Intel showed boards that fit into the x8 PCI Express slots.
