The company gave attendees a first look and demonstration of its new mobile processors, code-named “Tiger Lake”. Tiger Lake processors have been optimised in various areas including the CPU, AI accelerators and discrete-level integrated graphics based on the new Intel X graphics architecture.
This means Tiger Lake will deliver performance gains, AI performance improvements, a leap in graphics performance and 4x the throughput of USB 3 with the new integrated Thunderbolt 4. The first Tiger Lake systems are built on Intel’s 10nm+ process and are expected to ship this year.
Intel also gave a preview of what it says is the first X-based discrete GPU, as well as giving an update on the company’s “Project Athena” innovation program. Intel has now verified 25 Project Athena designs, and it has expanded its partnership with Google to deliver the first two Project Athena-verified Chromebooks, the ASUS Chromebook Flip (C436) and the Samsung Galaxy Chromebook.
It also showcased new dual-screen and foldable designs like the Lenovo ThinkPad X1 Fold, which uses the Intel Core processor with Intel Hybrid Technology (code-named “Lakefield”) expected to ship midyear, and the Dell Concept Duet.
Intel also previewed its own concept device, a foldable OLED display form factor, code-named “Horseshoe Bend”. The design is similar in size to a 12-inch laptop, with a folding touchscreen display that can be opened up to more than 17 inches, and is based on Intel’s upcoming Tiger Lake mobile processors.
The company also made announcements around its self-driving Mobileye business, AI, cloud, network, edge and PCs.
