London Calling: Former IBM, Globalfoundries execs rising
LONDON – Rutger Wijburg, general manager of Fab 1 in Dresden for GlobalFoundries Inc. (Milpitas, Calif.) has been promoted to senior vice president.
Wijburg was a senior vice president at his previous job, Operations Manager Front End for NXP Semiconductors NV (Eindhoven, The Netherlands) which he left nearly a year ago.
Now he has regained that title as an acknowledgement of his achievements in turning Fab 1 around. Or as GlobalFoundries states: "leading GlobalFoundries leading-edge manufacuturing site through a comprehensive transformation process over the past 10 months."
"Fab performance has significantly improved, our capacity ramp is on track, delivery commitments are consistently being met, and important technology milestones are hit right on plan," said Ajit Manocha, CEO of GlobalFoundries, in a statement. "Today, Fab 1 is recognized as a leading foundry fab, engaging industry-leading customers for 28-nm production, and shipping best foundry yields at the 32-nm node."
Wijburg said: "We hired several hundred new employees, completed a new clean room building and are right on track for our 28-nm ramp." He holds both a Master of Science degree and Ph.D. in Electrical Engineering from the University of Twente, the Netherlands.
