MANHASSET, NY -- LG Display has introduced a 5-inch fullhigh definition LCD panel for smartphones, which the company claims providesthe same quality as on TVs and monitors.
LG Display's panel is based on the company's AH-IPS(Advanced High Performance In-Plane Switching) technology that enables 440ppi(pixels per inch) and 1920x1080 resolution for full HDTV quality on asmartphone.
The panel has a 16:9 widescreen aspect ratio and is 0.5inches larger, 2.2 times denser in pixels, and 1.3 times more advanced in ppithan the preceding 4.5-inch panel at 329ppi and 1280x720.
"As smartphones become increasingly valued for how well theydo multimedia and with the rapid growth of LTE enabling faster large filetransfers, our new 5-inch full HD LCD panel is certain to prove a significantasset to the mobile market," said Sang-Deok Yeo, CTO and Executive VicePresident of LG Display, in a statement.
LG Display's AH-IPS' technology provides high-densitydisplays where the naked eye is unable to distinguish between individual pixelsand its bright light transmission and low power consumption is ideal for use inoutdoor settings, according to the company.
LG Display Co Ltd manufactures and supplies TFT-LCD panels,OLEDs, and flexible displays ranging in sizes and specifications for use inTVs, monitors, notebook PCs, and mobile products. The company operates eightfabrication facilities and seven back-end assembly facilities in Korea, China,Poland, and Mexico.
The new HD LCD panel is expected to be released during thesecond half of this year, and will be on exhibit for the first time at SID 2012Display Week in Boston next week. A list of exhibitors can be found here.
