The price increase of chip will probably be the norm in the semiconductor industry this year. The price of the ST MCU on the market are priced a day, and now Nexperia has also issued a price increase notice.
Recently, Nexperia issued a notice to increase the price of products from June 7, 2021. The reason for the price increase is nothing more than the shortage of raw materials and the increase in costs. Affected by the COVID-19, semiconductor wafers and foundry packaging are facing raw material shortages and increased costs, causing many chip prices to fluctuate and even continue to rise.
Although the current shortage of Nexperia yet to be a big problem, spot inventory prices have been rising slightly. During June, the original factory prices have risen sharply, by as much as 30%-40%.
The shortage of foundry capacity has caused a global semiconductor supply crisis, and the lack of core has severely affected the manufacturing of end products in many fields such as automobiles and consumer electronics. Prior to this, Malaysia, the world's leading packaging and testing center, once again announced the "closure of the country" due to the outbreak and required related factories to reduce production line personnel. Wingtech's packaging and testing plant in Malaysia may have also been affected to a certain extent.
If the packaging and testing capacity drops again, it will undoubtedly further aggravate the problem of global core shortage and price increase.
