Micron selects Rambus CryptoManager platform for Authenta line

According to Rambus, the CryptoManager Infrastructure and Key Management Service (KMS) for Authenta technology will enable Micron to securely provision cryptographic information at any point in the extended manufacturing supply chain and throughout the IoT device lifecycle. This should enhance platform protection while enabling new silicon-to-cloud services.

The integrated solution will be essential to providing a foundation of trust for many market verticals, including the Industrial IoT, smart cities, medical, automotive and connected homes, says Rambus.

Proven in high-volume applications, the Rambus CryptoManager Platform securely provisions and maintains sensitive cryptographic data, like device IDs and other key material, starting at the manufacturing process, enabling simple, secure end-to-end authenticated solutions for easy device management, firmware lifecycle management and connectivity.

“Device and data security are essential in order to successfully scale IoT services,” said Amit Gattani, senior director of embedded segment marketing at Micron. “By leveraging the Rambus CryptoManager Infrastructure and KMS for Micron Authenta technology, we are able to deliver a stronger security model for end devices while accelerating time to market and reducing development costs for Micron customers.”

Micron Authenta technology provides a unique level of protection for the lowest layers of IoT device software — starting with the boot process, explains Rambus. Utilising existing standard flash memory sockets, developers can strengthen system-level cybersecurity without adding additional hardware components, leading to a more affordable and robust IoT solution.

Authenta technology provides the ingredients necessary to authenticate IoT devices directly with a host — whether in the cloud, at the edge or on the device. The solution includes Authenta-enabled flash memory, core middleware and software development kits, and the key management services required by customers to build IoT device management and security applications.

“Establishing trust across key points in the IoT through secure device authentication and connectivity is paramount to the safe deployment of smart devices and vehicles, as well as automated industrial equipment,” said Dr. Martin Scott, SVP/GM of Cryptography and CTO, Rambus. “The combination of secure provisioning from our CryptoManager Infrastructure with Micron’s Authenta secure memory will enable a broad industry footprint of trusted devices for end-to-end IoT security.”
