ELEMENT14’s online poll of its global electronics community has revealed interesting trends about the future of electronics design engineering.
element14 conducted polls across all its social media channels, with over 4500 responses.
Sensing was voted as the biggest technology with the potential to revolutionise electronics in the future, followed closely by LED lighting, robotics and medical electronics.
Sensing technology is driving new ways of interfacing with technology. From the then-revolutionary touch scroll wheel of the iPod, to then multi-touch capacitive touch screen interfaces and voice gesture technologies of today, new sensing capabilities help drive device miniaturisation.
The technology is also significant for industrial applications, and will also help drive non-invaisve diagnosis and treatment.
The majority of respondents chose embedded technology as the highlight for 2012, followed by sensing, green IT and mobile and wireless.
